Radio classes train participants to host their own live radio broadcasts, produce their own radio stories, and develop meaningful relationshps with adult mentors. ZUMIX Radio, our online radio station, also serves to connect us to our community and invites participation by community members.

Radio Active

If you love listening to, talking about, and sharing your love for music, then this is the class for you! You will learn how to run equipment, structure a music program, and how to use your voice effectively over the airwaves. Join the growing roster of ZUMIX Radio DJs and develop a following for your own weekly radio show!

Reality Radio

Are you an aspiring journalist, artist, poet, scientist, or activist? Do you want to know more about your community? Everyone has a story to share…what’s yours?


In this class you will connect with community members of East Boston, conduct interviews, record and edit audio, and use a state-of-the-art radio studio to produce the stories you uncover on ZUMIX Radio. All you need is a curiosity about the world around you! (Graduates of this class are eligible for paid positions as ZUMIX Youth Radio Journalists.)

Reality Radio II

(Restricted to graduates of Reality Radio) Deepen your skills in audio journalism/storytelling, while getting PAID to contribute stories to ZUMIX Radio! Students will visit local radio stations and distribute their stories.  They will also prepare a portfolio of stories to be used in college applications, while honing their skills in technology, communication, journalism, and media literacy.
