He served on the ZUMIX board for several years (including a stint as board president) and continues to be a valuable friend and partner of ZUMIX. \nSteven is also the leader of Eastie’s own Don’t Be Denied Band\, whose lineup includes several ZUMIX alumni and former staff members. The band focuses on social justice and community and raises money for local charities. Steven is a proud East Boston resident. \nJuan Gutierrez is a graduate of Boston Arts Academy\, Boston University\, and Suffolk University. He is a ZUMIX alum and former staff member who helped plan events\, design programs\, and amplify youth voices in the organization. He is an accomplished bassist and multi-instrumentalist and a founding member of Wild Painting\, a highly successful ZUMIX ensemble. DESCRIPTION:Hubby Jenkins is a multi-instrumentalist who endeavors to share his love and knowledge of old-time American music. Born and raised in Brooklyn\, he delved into his southern roots\, following the thread of African-American history that wove itself through America’s traditional music forms. \nAs an integral member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops and later Rhiannon Giddens band\, Hubby has performed at festivals and venues around the world\, earning himself both Grammy and Americana award nominations. Today\, he spreads his knowledge and love of old-time American music through his dynamic solo performances and engaging workshops. \nThis workshop will feature a performance by Hubby and a chance for ZUMIX students to share their music and receive feedback.
