GENERAL TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Zumix Radio operates as a non-commercial (NCO) station, under Part 15 FCC regulations. Studio facilities are located at 202 Maverick St., East Boston, MA.

History

2004

-November, 2004: Zumix receives a Connections For Tomorrow (C4T) grant to start a radio station.

2005
-January, 2005: Steve Provizer is brought on board to coordinate the station. Steve previously founded Radio Free Allston, 106.1 FM, Allston-Brighton Free Radio, 1630 AM and constructed the studio for All GIrl's Radio, 540 AM in Dorchester.
-March: Studio construction begins; Sam Russell is taken on as a full-time VISTA volunteer.
-May: First Station signal tests on the air.
-June: Training of first youth radio staff begins. Automation is implemented and Zumix Radio is on the air 24/7.
-August: First group of youth DJ's goes on the air.
-October: Second round of training begins, including both youth and adults.
