ZUMIX Community arts programs allow our participants to work in the context of our broader community by providing free outdoor music and cultural programming. They also support local economic development by highlighting some of East Boston's greatest assets: our diverse population, dynamic organizations and civic groups, ethnic stores and restaurants, the bustle of Maverick Square, the tranquility of Piers Park, and our beautiful waterfront with spectacular views of downtown Boston.

SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS

ZUMIX is currently involved in two middle-school partnerships. Working with the Excel Academy charter school, ZUMIX is supporting a culture of academic and personal development for Excel students. As a result of good behavior and a high level of academic achievement, Excel students are given the opportunity to come to ZUMIX each Friday to participate in our instrumental, songwriting, radio, and music technology classes.

At the Mario Umana Academy Middle School ZUMIX is part of a large-scale effort to expand opportunities for all 650 Umana Barnes students. ZUMIX is supporting that effort by offering music classes two days a week, on-site at the Umana Barnes.

SUMMER CONCERTS

Since 1991, ZUMIX has been actively involved in bringing music and arts to the people of East Boston. In 1994, ZUMIX began the Music In Maverick Square concert series. Over the years, Music in Maverick Square has developed into a full summer series with free concerts every Tuesday night in July and August. In 1997, ZUMIX began the Piers Park Concerts series, inviting local residents to enjoy East Boston's greatest physical asset - our beautiful waterfront. Concerts take place Tuesday evenings in Maverick Square and Sunday evenings in Piers Park from 6-8PM in July and from 5-7 PM in August. See the Events calendar.
