ZUMIX has developed solid collaborations with numerous organizations that provide access to important resources for our participants and our staff.
Boston-based partners include:
1) Berklee College of Music, giving priority to ZUMIX participants for their summer SYSTEM-5 program, their Mentoring program, and their year-round
Saturday City Music Program.
2) The New England Institute of Arts and Communications, providing interns to support our music and technology programs, and hosting ZUMIX youth for college tours.
3) The Greater Boston Center for Healthy Communities, providing training - including their BEST (Building Exemplary Systems for Training) Initiative - for
ZUMIX staff and youth leaders.
Local collaboration is also an important part of our work. East Boston collaborators include:
1) East Boston Main Streets, connecting ZUMIX with local businesses which support our summer concert series (staffed by Z-TECH youth), and providing performance opportunities for our young musicians.
2)
Excel Academy Charter School, where ZUMIX is supporting a culture of academic and personal development for Excel students. As a result of good behavior and a high level of academic achievement, Excel students are given the opportunity to come to ZUMIX each Friday to participate in our instrumental, songwriting, radio, and music technology classes.
3) Mario Umana Middle School Academy, where we offer on-site instrumental lessons as part of their Whole School Improvement Plan. ZUMIX guitar teacher, Leonardo Colon, is on site two days a week eaching music to middle school students as a mandatory part of their extended learning program. ZUMIX participant Jose Hernandez is student teaching bass along side Mr. Colon.
4) NOAH, where we collaborate on the Know What's Up Youth Concerts, monthly events with specific themes and direct outreach to disseminate information regarding opportunities for neighborhood youth.
